Cover 3 might well be the safest coverage - however defending 4 verts is an inherent weakness. A defensive concept must be included to defend this popular pass. Included amongst them could be - the Safety robbing the strong seam and the wk HB running with a vert release by # 2 weak.

Coach Wolf, you are correct, defending 4 verts is key in cover 3, but if you only give up the vertical the furthest away from the QB, often the vertical from #1 strong, it is not too scary to play cover 3 vs 4 verts. (Ball in the air for a long time & QB arm strength makes it hard to complete for the offence)
